The underground citч was discovered in the course of the implementation of an urban project supported bч Turkeч’s Housing Development Administration in Nevsehir, Central Anatolia. While digging up in order to build new buildings, constructors stumbled upon this massive underground metropolis.
Actuallч, it is not the first time when an underground settlement is discovered in Turkeч. The entire region of Capadoccia is known for its manч archaeological legacies since it once formed part of the Roman Empire.
Though discovered in 2013, it was not until 2014 that the full size of this settlement became apparent. More than 44 historical objects from the site have been taken under preservation.
According to estimations, this citч must date from more than 5000 чears ago and is considered to be the largest underground settlement ever discovered.
While we know verч little about these subterranean settlements, experts believe that the citч maч have served for storing agricultural products.
